What livelihood issues are most concerned and expected to be improved by Hunan residents in 2019? On January 7, the Hunan Statistics Bureau Public Opinion Survey Center released a survey result based on a random sample of 2,100 ordinary residents across the province. It says that food safety, medical care, education, and social security are the top four most concerned issues.

In the opinion polls, 65.1% of the respondents concerned about food safety. The main focuses include: food safety of genetically modified foods; pesticide residues in vegetables and fruits; and, excessive heavy metals or clenbuterol in meat, poultry, and related products. In general, they expected for a “guaranteed food quality”.

It was learned that 61.1% of the respondents showed consideration for medical care, and medical expense in particular. Some suggested that “medical staff service quality” and “ difficulties in medical treatment” are also worthy of attention. Educational issues drew greatest attention among 57.3% of respondents. The most concerned problems included: arbitrary charges in school; overburdened extracurricular trainings; admission to neighborhood primary schools; and, educational equality. “Teaching quality” was still the top heated focus.

Move over, 55.3% of the respondents paid close attention to social security issue. Highlight was mainly on social security and wages. The issues of “endowment security”, “ difficult group living security and assistance”, and “medical insurance” were also of major concerns.
